The holidays are just around the corner, so I thought it would be a good time to give my two cents on holiday workout consistency. So here are a few helpful tips from your bestie, Dara.
It is not the end of the world if the gym is closed or has reduced hours/classes, and it’s also not the end of the world if you feel less motivated! This is super normal during those ‘awkward days’ when you are off work or working shorter days!
In my opinion, that week is like a fever dream! But here are some ideas!
Firstly, it’s not the end of the world if you can’t get into the gym because it’s closed or your schedule is packed. Look ahead at the schedule and plan accordingly. If you can’t get to the gym, plan an activity that keeps you out and about! Increase your NEAT (Non-exercise activity thermogenesis), or the calories you burn through daily activity excluding purposeful physical activity! Go for a walk, park far from the grocery store entrance, walk your doggy twice as long, and take the stairs!
For reference here are our 2023 Holiday Hours
Dec 24th 8am – 4pm
Dec 25th CLOSED
Dec 26th 8am – 6pm
Dec 31st 8am – 6pm
Jan 1st 8am – 8pm
If the gym is open but your motivation is low, sign up for a class! Remember the last time you looked forward to a workout and revisit that scenario! Buy an intro three-pack of personal training for the accountability or for a new program to get you excited! A new program, a list of new exercises—these are just a few things that will get you boot-scooting to the gym!
And lastly, WE’RE ALL COLD. It’s the arctic tundra out there, but remember it’s warmer in a room with plenty of people… and effortful physical movements… like the inside of a gym…
